Current news | An Observer's Guide to the US Elections, Monday, 13 February 2012 Now Begins the Chaos: An Observer's Guide to the US Elections, Monday, 13 February 2012 Join ACS, Fulbrighter scholars and Swedish Fulbright Alumnae Association Members for this second session in our ACS Intercultural Forum Series. A panel of expert observers guides us through the US election process from both American and Swedish perspectives, and stimulates debate about what the key issues will be and why. We gather on Monday, 13 February 2012, 18.00-20.30, at Lindahl's Advokatbyrå, Mäster Samuelsgatan 20. In Sweden we are used to what seems to be a comparatively tame and orderly process when it comes to elections. Even if certain personalities always stand out in politics, historically the vote in Sweden has not been for individual politicians, whose personal lives are scrutinized in every detail, but for parties. We do not experience the storm of funding campaigns by individual politicians, and the process by which the elections take place is a fraction of the time compared to the drawn out process in the United States. In this perspective, how do we make sense of the election ”chaos” as the United States goes into a new period of elections and electioneering? What are the key points of comparison and contrast between American and Swedish elections? Why do our different electoral processes look the way that they do? We also take up the substance of the upcoming American elections: what will be the key issues and why? The objective of the ACS Intercultural Forum, established in 2011, is to create an open space for discussion of cultural issues in Sweden and in the United States. Following the success of the first session in our series, we emphasize that it is important to register early!
