Current news | Hans Blix Swedish Fulbright Alumni of 2010 In the words of Senator Fulbright: ”The Fulbright Commission aims to bring a little more knowledge, a little more reason, and a little more compassion into world affairs and thereby increase the chance that nations will learn at last to live in peace and friendship.” To this end, the Swedish Fulbright Alumni Association has decided that the Fulbright Alumni of the Year Award will be given to a Fulbright alumnus/a who over the years has increased mutual understanding between peoples, or contributed to the exchange of ideas, creating solutions to shared international challenges.  The 2010 Fulbright Alumni of the Year Award is presented to Dr. Hans Blix, a Fulbright Scholar, and a well known international statesman. Dr. Blix symbolizes the international civil servant’s ethics of integrity, objectivity and impartiality, and he has shown an adamant belief in global cooperation. Through his service as Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) 1981-97, and as Head of the UN Monitoring, Inspection and Verification Commission in charge of inspecting Iraq in 2000-2003, he has manifested his commitment to the United Nations, and has contributed to solutions to shared international challenges and to peace and friendship among nations.
